“For freedom Christ has set us free.” This series is for anyone seeking the healing power of Jesus Christ, who came to Set Captives Free. In each episode, we will enter into Jeff Joaquin’s journey and relationship with the deadly sins and how God relentlessly pursued him and restored a lost and wounded prodigal son.

Jeff’s journey with alcohol began at just thirteen years old. Alcohol was the gateway to hard-core drugs. Hear his story of chronic substance abuse that stole one of his biggest dreams and nearly ended his life. Reaching rock bottom, Jeff had nowhere else to turn and cried out to God.

Tragically, Jeff’s journey with pornography began even earlier than his alcohol abuse at just eleven years old. Hear how the bondage of sexual sin made it very difficult to have a normal relationship with a woman, how it affects his marriage today, and what it took receive healing.

In Jeff’s life, not unlike the King David story, sexual sin led to death. A life conceived in the womb while he was in high school was eliminated for two hundred dollars. Enter into Jeff’s pain and the scourge of abortion. Encounter the God of Mercy as Jeff recounts his process of healing and his newfound relationship with his son, Jonathan.

It’s been over 35 years since the abortion and 15 years since he was forgiven in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, but now we dare ask Jeff the question, “Have you forgiven yourself.” Still in the process of healing, Jeff describes when he knows the process will be complete.

The Holy Spirit reveals that “the love of money is the root of all evil” and equates greed with idolatry. Indeed, the insatiable desire for riches has been competing with God’s throne throughout the ages. Jeff reflects upon several stories from Scripture with both good and bad orientations and examples when it comes to possessions. Ultimately, he reveals the virtue of charity overcomes greed.

In many cases, the love of money spills over into workaholism. The impact on the family is devastating leaving the children rejected and fatherless even while dad is in the home. Mark and Jeff call upon men to do better and use “The Door” as a daily trigger point to humble themselves and enter more fully into the lives of their spouses and children.

The entire Christian life is a journey and restoration of relationship with God, the Father. Each man is a prodigal son who had to take personal responsibility for what he has done and the moment he takes an initiative to seek forgiveness, the Father is waiting with open arms. By Christ’s wounds, we are healed. Jeff describes how sharing his wounds is a source of healing both for himself and others. “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1).
